Brett Favre Comments on Aaron Rodgers

Can you feel the tension?

Earlier this week, former Packer Quarterback Brett Favre said that he wasn't surprised that Aaron Rodgers won a Super Bowl. That would've been fine, until he went on to say he was surprised that Rodgers didn't win a Super Bowl sooner, even though Rodgers won in just his third year starting. Favre stated that back in 2007 he made comments that that Packers team was the most talented he had ever been. Favre has once again stuck his foot in his mouth with relations to his former organization. He comes off as jealous and angry against the man who replaced him in Green Bay, and the comment was completely uncalled for.
When asked for a response for Favre, Rodgers dodged the question by complimenting his team on winning the Super Bowl. Rodgers is nearly a polar opposite of Favre in handling adversity, preferring to keep his emotions to himself and publicly holding an even keel. Rodgers is now outshining Favre in football and the media and is a class act.
I sincerely hope that one day, Favre will have enough maturity to make amends with the Packer organization and with Aaron Rodgers, but for now, it appears, he still doesn't have enough.

Donald Driver still Tough SOB

Donald Driver is kneeling in pain after being injured, but he later comes back to score a TD
I need to say this about Donald Driver, he never quits. On Sunday Driver got a brutal hit to the shin and was carted off the sidelines in what looked like it could be a potentially season ending injury. But he came back in the second half to catch a Touchdown pass from Aaron Rodgers to surprise everyone. Donald Driver is 36 years old still playing and training like a much younger man. Donald Driver has repeatedly stated throughout his career that he wants to play until he's 40 and he keeps making it look like he can. If Driver can keep up production for another four years, he might have an outside shot at the Hall of Fame.

Former Packer DE Johnny Jolly Arrested on Drug Charges

Former Packer Johnny Jolly was arrested on Drug Charges

Johnny Jolly, the Former Packer Defensive End was arrested on drug charges once again. Included in the count was attempting to conceal codeine from the police. Jolly once had a promising career for the Packers but has been derailed twice before by drug charges and has been indefinitely suspended by the league. In both prior cases, the drug of choice was codeine. This latest incident is likely the final strike for the once talented player.

Green Bay vs Atlanta Falcons

Atlanta is going to have to step up their game if they want to go from squeaking by the Seahawks to beating the Packers

Green Bay faces Atlanta this weekend in a rematch of the memorable NFC playoff matchup. Both teams however have gone in different directions since that game, Green Bay has not lost, and Atlanta is 2-2 and has looked very unimpressive this season. In the offseason, the Falcons trades parts of two drafts to select WR Julio Jones from Alabama, but offense hasn't been the only  problem. Just like their game against the Packers, the issues have been on defense, with the Falcons at 27th in the league in points allowed. The Falcons also suffer from being in a very tough division with the New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Green Bay on the other hand leads the league in scoring but is 18th in points allowed, but haven't been on the edge of losing since the New Orleans game. Green Bay Quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been on a tear this year with so many weapons to throw to such as Jermichael Finley, Greg Jennings, and recently extended Jordy Nelson. Atlanta QB Matt Ryan has had a tough year, throwing 4 INTs to go along with 6 TDs. They will need to perform much better if they are going to beat the Packers.

Alabama vs Vanderbilt Preview

This is Alabama Coach Nick Saban looking ornery, so no different than usual.

Alabama hosts the Vanderbilt Commodores at noon this Saturday. The Commodores are off to a solid and surprising 3-1 start this season off the strength of a solid, opportunistic defense. Vanderbilt leagues the nation in interceptions with 14. On the flip side, their offense has been less than stellar, getting stifled in their last game vs South Carolina and are 82nd in the nation in points scored with 25.5 per game. Alabama has dominated their opponents this season beating each one by more than two touchdowns coming off two impressive wins dominating the Florida Gators and Arkansas Razorbacks. Alabama has the top defense in the nation as far as allowing points,  keeping their opponents to 8.4 points per game, and is 18th in the nation in points scored.
Alabama Coach Nick Saban talked about his team and Vanderbilt at his press conference this week. To view the highlights of the press conferences, please visit al.com.

Packer Wide Receiver Jordy Nelson Receives Contract Extension

This is what Jordy Nelson probably did after getting paid
Jordy Nelson signed a three year contract extension this week with the Green Bay Packers, making him the latest member of General Manager Ted Thompson's philosophy of rewarding drafted players with contracts, rather than going through Free Agency to get players. The deal is worth $13.35 Million with $5 Million guaranteed. Nelson has 15 catches and three Touchdown catches on the season. This leaves Center Scott Wells and Tight End Jermichael Finley as the next top two candidates in line for extensions.

Green Bay vs Denver Recap

Charles Woodson is celebrating the 11th Interception returned for a Touchdown in his career
Mike McCarthy must have had a grudge against someone on the Denver Broncos, for the aggressiveness he showed sure made it seem like it. The Green Bay Packers defeated the Denver Broncos on Sunday 49-23 with Quarterback Aaron Rodgers accounting for six total touchdowns including two rushing touchdowns in a Packer win that included a successful onside kick and another defensive touchdown in Cornerback Charles Woodson's illustrious career. The point total pushed the Packers to the highest scoring team in the league and the win put them as one of the last two undefeated teams, with fellow NFC North rivals Detroit Lions. The Packers pass defense which had been shaky picked off the Broncos 3 times ,  and the run defense was once again a solid unit, only allowing 119 yards for the whole game.

Alabama vs Florida recap

Quarterback AJ McCarron is celebrating after scoring a one yard TD run against the Florida Gators
The Alabama Crimson Tide was able to defeat the Florida Gators on Saturday in convincing fashion. Trent Richardson thrust himself back into the Heisman trophy conversation with 181 yards on 29 carries. Florida was in the game until early in the fourth quarter when Alabama scored their fourth touchdown to go up 31-10 and added one more after that to put the game away for good. This was an all around dominant performance after the early touchdown allowed by the Alabama defense. AJ McCarron, Alabama's quarterback, didn't have the best game, but made enough plays to win, which is all Head Coach Nick Saban asks from him. Next week Alabama faces the Vanderbilt Commodores. Alabama vs. Florida

Last week Alabama used special teams and defense to score on its way to crushing the Arkansas Razorbacks. Today they take on the Florida Gators who appear to have a solid team but haven't played anyone of note as of yet. Alabama may be without linebacker C.J. Mosley. The Florida Gators are under new leadership this season with Will Muschamp taking the helm and former Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis taking control of the offense, converting them from a spread offense to a pro style offense. Jeff Demps and Chris Rainey are the two big playmakers for the Gators and the Crimson Tide must account for them or its going to be a long day.

Green Bay Injury Update: Nick Collins Out for Season

In his  press conference Monday afternoon, Packer Head Coach Mike McCarthy  revealed that Pro Bowl Safety Nick Collins would be out for the season with a neck injury. Earlier evaluations had things looking positive but suddenly took a turn for the worse. Collins will be replaced by Charlie Peprah, former Alabama Safety, who filled in for injured Morgan Burnett. Peprah is a very capable player. His intelligence and instincts help make up for a lack of overwhelming physical ability.

Green Bay @ Carolina

I attended the Green Bay vs. Carolina game on Sunday and watch the Packers come back to beat the Panthers. The game was ugly early but the Packers salvaged the game with a strong second half. Nick Collins suffered a neck injury and left the game. Hopefully he can get healthy within a few games as Charlie Peprah takes over for him. He is a very capable replacement, though it will be difficult to replace someone of his caliber. I am not too worried about the defense at this point in the season because scoring has been up all over the league, although Carolina did have several wide open receivers. Their next game against Chicago should be very telling about where the defense is going to be headed this season. Tramon Williams was held out in a game-time decision which turned out to be a smart move, allowing him to get healthy as the Packers get a win.
